After ten years in hotel conference services & sales, Joan Oefner founded the company in 1992 in San Francisco to provide full service association management to not-for-profit scientific and medical societies. Joan Oefner, formerly Joan Saluzzi, has been the Executive Director of the Southwest Chapter, Society of Nuclear Medicine (1993-2000), the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging (1993-2005), the California Separation Science Society (1996 - 2001), the Society for Molecular Imaging (2002-2006) and the SF Neurological Society (2002-2005).
Joan Oefner has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Colorado (1982) and passed the CAE exam in 1998 (Certified Association Executive designation) from the American Society of Association Executives). She has been a member of the European Society of Association Executives and the American Society of Association Executives.
After downsizing the company when the Oefner family moved to Germany, the goal of the company is to manage an international non-profit society without having to hire a large staff. By networking with other specialized, independent professionals and utilizing the exptertise of the volunteer leadership, the society would be free to experiment with new programs and follow trends that are changing the landscape of non-profit organizations.
